They say that the Japanese only do traditional judo, with a sleeve-lapel grip. Of course that's not true. Modern Japanese judokas display all kinds of innovation with gripping and throwing variations.

Uta Abe does do uchimata from a traditional sleeve-lapel grip but she does not limit herself to that. In the recent Zagreb Grand Prix, she did three kinds of uchimata from three different gripping situations.

*Uchimata from a sode-tsurikomi-goshi grip.

*Uchimata from an ogoshi grip.

*Uchimata from a Georgian-style grip.
