Austria done with Marko Spittka

Austrian headcoach Marko Spittka is no longer head coach. The German trainer was dismissed from all his tasks per 1 August evening after a board meeting of the Austrian Federation.

With 24 days for the World Championships this leaves a giant gap in the coaching staff. The OEJV is trying for a temporary solution as it is not expected that a long term solution will be possible in this short time. With less than a year to go for the Olympic Games the need is high.

The reason for the decision are problems in the women's team. Europe’s judoka of the year in 1997 was successful building up a stable women’s team, but never won gold at the biggest tournaments, despite 16 World Tour medals.

Patrick Rusch is men’s coach in Austria and rose from junior to men's head coach, just like Spittka. Five women are qualified for the World Championships in Tokyo.
