Stevens ready for his new challenge

Fight to Win Pro continues to work to change the landscape of competitive grappling. This weekend the organization puts on what may be the biggest main event in the promotion’s history as an ADCC champion faces off against an Olympic medalist in Judo. Travis Stevens and Yuri Simoes will meet in a fight that’s sure to capture the attention of all those interested in the grappling arts.

People always ask me, “Hey Travis, will you ever fight in MMA?” The quick answer is “no I will not” and this video helps me explain why. - Stevens wrote on his blog.fujisports.com

Stevens also added: "I finally have the ability after winning my Olympic Medal to be FREE of pain and for the most part, healthy! Honestly, I’m enjoying the new challenges in my life and having new goals that don’t require me to wake up in pain every day. Sometimes I miss fighting and the thrill of competing but it quickly goes away after 2 live rounds with my students. I’m embracing the new challenges life has for me and my body is thankful for it as well as the team of people I keep around me."

Stevens and Simoes aren’t the only two big names on this card. Former UFC heavyweight title challenger, Gabriel Gonzaga is set to face off against Shaun Durfee. In addition, former Bellator lightweight title challenger and another American Judoka in Rick Hawn, will battle Anniss El Hallahay.

Fight to Win Pro 44 is scheduled to begin at 6pm on Saturday, August 12. Streaming is available through FloGrappling.com.
